This e-bike coastal tour was designed to offer a relaxed, immersive and authentic experience along the stunning coastline of Matosinhos.
Riding modern electric bikes, you will follow a mostly flat and easy route, perfect for all fitness levels. The tour combines sea views, green areas, fishing heritage and local gastronomy, always at a comfortable pace.
Matosinhos has always lived side by side with the ocean. Fishing, shipyards, markets and preserves shaped the identity of the city - and throughout this tour, our guide will share stories about the importance of fish, the sea and the traditions that still define the region today.
What to expect
Starting at the beautiful Anémona Roundabout in Matosinhos, you will ride along the Atlantic coast towards the “Forte de São Francisco Xavier”, one of the city’s most iconic seaside fortresses. From there, the route continues to “Foz do Douro”, where the Douro river meets the ocean, offering beautiful panoramic views.
You will then cycle through Parque da Cidade, the largest urban park in Portugal, known for its open landscapes, lakes and peaceful paths, before heading to the Matosinhos Market area. This market reflects Matosinhos’ deep connection to the sea, showcasing the importance of fresh fish, seafood and local produce in everyday life. It is a key meeting point for locals and a true symbol of the city’s fishing heritage.
The tour then continues north along the coast towards Leça Beach and the Leça Lighthouse, one of the oldest in Portugal. You will also visit the Capela da Boa Nova, considered one of the most beautiful chapels in the country, perfectly blending architecture and landscape. Finally, the route includes a stop at the Praia da Memória Monument, a symbolic site of deep historical significance.
The route then leads back to the Anémona Roundabout, completing a circular itinerary of approximately 27 km (16.8 miles), mostly flat and low in intensity, ideal for riders of all levels.
Throughout the experience, several stops are planned for you to enjoy a selection of traditional Portuguese tastings, including octopus, sardines, codfish cake (“bolinho de bacalhau”), a Portuguese cheese board and a pastel de nata to drink, there’s nothing better than the famous Vinho Verde. These tastings perfectly complement the coastal setting and highlight the strong link between Matosinhos, the sea and its gastronomy.

The visit to the interior of Matosinhos Market is only possible on days when the market is open. The market is closed on Sundays and Mondays; on those days, the stop will be made outside, where the guide will provide explanations about its importance and the city’s fishing heritage.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
